apartment rejuvenation: Mo, Part 1

A few months ago my dear friend Mo called me from New York City.  She implored for assistance in paint color selection for her new apartment that she shares with her boyfriend in the trendy Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn.  Color is a delicate subject, every color reacts to context, light other colors.  It is near impossible to select colors from across the country.

I have retreated to Rancho La Puerta in Mexico for a few days of much needed detoxification and reflection.  Indeed, Los Angeles provided a stimulating setting for design work, but the pace and (must I say it?) nightlife have worn on my constitution.

This morning’s cover of the Wall Street Journal boasted a story about tinsel: the silvery strands strewn on Christmas Trees during the holiday season.  I was surprised to read that tinsel, along with a number of popular holiday decorations, was invented by a Jewish man who didn’t even celebrate the holiday!  According to the WSJ, tinsel is more popular than ever, in part because of its economic value: a box of 1000 strands costs $2.  In a time of recession, why not save a little cash while adding sparkle
